Bilateral Relations

Kenya — ISRAEL

Diplomatic relations established 1 March 1994

Overview

The Republic of Kenya and the State of Israel enjoy longstanding and cordial bilateral relations founded on mutual respect, shared interests, and enduring cooperation across various sectors of national development. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established shortly after Kenya attained independence in 1963, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership that has continued to grow over the years.

Kenya and Israel have maintained close collaboration in areas of agriculture, water management, irrigation technology, health, education, security cooperation, trade and investment, innovation, renewable energy, and capacity building. The partnership has significantly contributed to Kenya’s socio-economic development through technical cooperation, skills transfer, and institutional support.

Israel has been a valuable development partner to Kenya, particularly through MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, which has facilitated training programmes and professional exchanges for thousands of Kenyans in fields such as agriculture, public health, entrepreneurship, disaster management, education, and community development. These programmes continue to strengthen human capital and institutional capacity in Kenya.

The two countries also enjoy strong economic and commercial relations. Israeli companies have invested in Kenya in sectors including agriculture, infrastructure, water technology, renewable energy, security systems, telecommunications, and construction. Kenya, on the other hand, remains an important gateway for Israeli engagement within the East African region. Trade and investment relations continue to expand as both countries explore new opportunities for economic cooperation and innovation-driven partnerships.

Kenya and Israel share common interests in promoting regional peace, stability, counter-terrorism cooperation, food security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. The two countries continue to engage closely through bilateral consultations, high-level visits, and multilateral platforms aimed at advancing mutual interests and strengthening international cooperation.

Over the years, the relationship between Kenya and Israel has remained resilient and dynamic, characterized by friendship, people-to-people ties, and a shared commitment to prosperity and development. Both countries remain committed to further deepening bilateral engagement for the mutual benefit of their peoples and future generations.
